Frequently asked questions
What we are usually asked before we work together
Straight answers about what we do, how we do it and what happens to your data. If what you are looking for is not here, ask us: real people answer.
The company
What exactly does oscarcabreragonzalez IoT Studio do?
We design, build and maintain industrial IoT ecosystems: the sensor, the electronics, the communications and the dashboard. We do not resell third-party platforms or put our name on other people's solutions. We work for industry, agriculture, energy and water.
Where are you based and how far do you work?
Our base is in Vlissingen, in the province of Zeeland (the Netherlands). We handle projects in the Netherlands, Belgium and Spain, and consider the rest of the European Union depending on the scope. The technical visit is always in person.
Why do you insist on visiting the installation before quoting?
Because a quote based on a drawing almost always fails. During the visit we see where there is coverage and where there isn't, the state of the switchboard, what access there is to the roofs and what question the person who will use the system really needs answered. Without that question there is no project worth having.
What size of project do you take on?
From a couple of sensors to complete plants. What we don't do is take on more work than we can sustain: an IoT ecosystem isn't delivered and forgotten, it is supported for years.
Where can I find out more about who is behind it?
On the Company page we explain why the studio exists, how we work, the eight lines we have built and the path each project follows from the technical visit to the ongoing support afterwards.
Solutions
What lines do you have under way?
Smart cultivation and greenhouse control; energy and water supply; industrial dataloggers; RFID traceability; fire detection and suppression; protection of photovoltaic installations; custom machine learning; and industrial connectivity where the network doesn't reach.
Do you protect solar installations? Do you sell panels?
We do not sell or install panels. We protect the ones you already have, both on industrial roofs and in ground-mounted plants. The ecosystem prevents, alerts and extinguishes: it monitors panel by panel and each string box, raises an alert pinpointing the exact spot when it detects a spark, light or arc, chemicals, smoke or flame, and if the fire is confirmed the patented Extincise suppression acts on the affected point, not on the whole plant. It can work in smart automatic, supervised or manual mode, and everything is monitored from a dashboard adapted to your installation.
What is a machine learning i-Book?
A neural network trained with your data to solve your specific problem, not a generic model. It is delivered running on your own equipment, inside your installation. The value is not in the algorithm, which is public: it is in the data only you have.
What if there is no coverage in my building?
That is the usual case and part of the job. We solve industrial communication from the last module to the dashboard with our own links, without depending on the customer's network or a telecom operator.
Do the systems comply with any standard?
Our detection modules are designed in accordance with EN 54 (fire detection and fire alarm systems). The sector's European reference framework also includes EN IEC 61730 (photovoltaic module safety), EN IEC 62446 (testing, documentation and maintenance of photovoltaic installations), the Construction Products Regulation (EU) 305/2011, and Directives 2014/30/EU on electromagnetic compatibility and 2014/35/EU on low voltage. These are the applicable reference standards; the specific regulatory scope of each installation is determined in the technical phase of the project.
Does the system act on its own or does my team decide?
You choose, and it can be changed. In smart automatic mode the ecosystem decides and acts by itself on the affected point. In supervised mode it proposes the action and waits for your team's confirmation. In manual mode control remains entirely with the operator. In all three cases the dashboard shows at all times the status of each zone and the environmental telemetry: outdoor temperature, wind, humidity and radiation index, which the system takes into account when deciding.
How we work
What are the steps of a project?
Four. Listen: technical visit and definition of the question the system must answer. Design: proposal with scope, technology, cost and the calculation behind it. Build: manufacture of the modules, communications and a dashboard tailored to the way you operate. Sustain: training for your team and ongoing support.
How long does it take?
It depends on the scope and the installation, so we don't give a fixed timeframe before the visit. What is fixed is the order: nothing is ever manufactured before we have in writing what it must measure and why.
Can I order just one part, for example the dashboard?
We'll look into it, but we point out the trade-off: our commitment is to answer for the whole. When the sensor or the communications come from another supplier, that responsibility is shared and you are back to having several parties pointing at each other.
What happens if something fails in two years' time?
There is a single number to call. That is why we grow slowly and don't take on more projects than we can maintain.
How do I start a project with you?
Tell us about your case in the What is your project? form on the home page or via Contact. An engineer will reply, and the first contact is free of charge.
Equipment and ongoing support
Can I buy individual equipment?
Equipment is supplied as part of a project: that way we answer for the whole, from the sensor to the dashboard. If you need a specific module, write to us via Contact and we'll look at how it fits into your installation.
How does support work after installation?
It is agreed in each project's proposal: maintenance, updates and support, in the format that best suits your operation. The contractual details are in the terms of service.
Data, privacy and security
Where does the data generated by my installation end up?
In your system. The dashboard is hosted at the customer's installation. We don't use third-party platforms, external APIs or paid applications. Your data is yours from day one and does not depend on us continuing to exist.
What cookies does this website use?
Technical cookies, essential for the site to work and to remember your choice about the others; and analytics cookies, which are only activated if you accept them. Until you accept, they are not set: there is no tracking cookie and your browsing is not recorded. Rejection is also enforced on the server, so it doesn't depend on the browser behaving properly. You can change your mind at any time from the cookie policy, and in any case you will be asked again every six months.
How do I ask you to delete me from your records?
Write to the contact address stating the email address under which you are registered. It is handled automatically and verifiably: the site finds your data in all records (subscribers, contacts, bookings, partners and subscriptions) and deletes it. The only exception is records subject to accounting obligations, which are not deleted but anonymised: the amount and date are kept, with no data that identifies you, because Dutch tax rules require records to be kept for seven years. You can also request a copy of everything we hold. The legal response time is one month.
What security measures do you apply on the website?
IP addresses are stored hashed, never in plain text. Forms include origin verification, a honeypot field, our own image CAPTCHA with an audio alternative (no external services) and a limit on attempts. Login supports a second factor with an authenticator app, and after several failed attempts the address is blocked for a while. The site sends a content security policy, HSTS and headers against clickjacking and cross-site tracking. In addition, everything that doesn't need to be kept expires automatically: analytics data is discarded after 90 days and commercial data after three years.
Do you use third-party services or paid tools?
Not for running the ecosystem. The dashboard lives in the customer's system, with no external platforms, no external programming interfaces and no paid applications. It is a design decision: your installation's data is yours and must not depend on an outside company continuing to exist or keeping its prices.
Terms and guarantees
What guarantee does the equipment have?
The legal guarantee of conformity recognised by European law (Directive (EU) 2019/771), with the period applicable according to the buyer's country and whether they are a consumer or a business. The details are in the terms of service.
Can I withdraw from a contract?
If you contract as a consumer at a distance, you have the 14-calendar-day right of withdrawal recognised by Directive 2011/83/EU, with the exceptions the directive itself establishes (for example, custom-made equipment). Business-to-business contracts are governed by what is agreed in the contract.
Which law applies and where can I make a claim?
Dutch law applies, without prejudice to the mandatory consumer protection rules of the buyer's country of residence. Before any formal complaint, write to us: almost everything is resolved by talking.
