Remote reading of water meters, end to end
We design, manufacture and deploy the complete IoT ecosystem to measure water consumption in real time. A single company, no intermediaries: from the meter at the installation to your control panel.
How we develop it: five layers, one system
Each layer custom-designed for water metering, integrated as a single ecosystem.
Hardware
Water meter with a certified remote-reading module and our own industrial-grade PCB.
Communications
Our own radio frequency that passes through meter pits and walls: the data travel to the concentrator without cables.
Materials
IP68 watertight encapsulation for meter pits: withstands immersion, humidity and corrosion.
Software
Platform and dashboard where the manager sees the entire meter network live.
Mobile app
The customer checks their water consumption in real time from their phone.
Measurable results, not promises
What a remote-reading ecosystem brings to a utility or energy manager.
Near real-time reading
Data every quarter of an hour instead of one manual reading a year. Decisions based on live information.
Site visits and mass mailings
The annual mailing of letters and the trips to read meters are eliminated: lower operating costs.
Leak and peak detection
The system flags anomalies instantly, reducing losses and complaints.
Every installation, a different challenge
The water meter lives in very different places —meter pits, basements, façades, communal rooms— and not all of them communicate equally well. That is why we integrate and customise every part.
Municipality · network
Meters spread across façades, interiors, meter pits, basements or garages; the challenge is to provide coverage in any location.1
Large building
Meter bank in the communal room, often in a semi-basement; a concentrator groups the readings of the block.2
Residential
Meter on the façade or in the meter cupboard behind the door; simple, stable communication.2
Detached house
Own inspection pit in the garden. The product can also be purchased by private customers, not only by the utility.
On-the-ground reality (the Netherlands). Meters in cupboards against an exterior wall, in meter pits or in basements are at extra risk of freezing and should be insulated.3 Buried meter pits, metal covers and basements do not favour wireless transmission and weaken the signal.4 Average consumption in the country is about 125 litres per person per day,5 and the digital meter is still recent: several companies are running pilots or preparing roll-out.6
Current B2B systems vs IoT ecosystems
Ten areas where the leap is noticeable, based on the reality of the water sector in the Netherlands.
Meter reading
An operator visits each point once a year to read the meter; in meter pits and basements it has to be located and opened.
Automatic remote reading: the data travel by themselves from the meter pit to the concentrator, without visits or access to the home.
Data frequency
A single value a year. The rest of the time billing is based on estimates.
Hourly measurement and daily transmission: real, continuous consumption, not estimated.
Leak detection
The leak is discovered late, usually when an abnormally high bill arrives.
Immediate alert: if water is always flowing when it shouldn't, the system flags it and sends a notification.
Billing
Based on estimates and annual adjustments, with frequent complaints.
Based on real measured consumption, with fewer errors and fewer complaints.
Difficult locations
Buried meter pits, metal covers and basements make reading harder and more expensive.
Our own radio frequency and per-building concentrators to reach where the signal is weak.
Operating cost
Travel, annual letters and re-readings add up to recurring costs.
Visits and mass mailings are eliminated: lower operating cost per point.
Data for the manager
No visibility of the network between readings; hard to anticipate incidents.
Live dashboard of the whole network: peaks, patterns and anomalies to anticipate.
The customer
Doesn't know how much they use until the bill arrives; no room to correct.
Checks their consumption in real time on their phone and adjusts in time.
Freezing and failures
On exterior walls, in meter pits and basements the risk of freezing goes unnoticed.
The system monitors temperature and flow direction, warning of risk before damage occurs.
Scalability
Every improvement requires more visits and more staff in the field.
Integrated and customised per installation; grows without multiplying field work.
In summary
The traditional model relies on one annual reading and many estimates: the leak shows up on the bill, not when it happens. An IoT ecosystem turns each meter into a live data point: it measures real consumption, flags leaks and anomalies instantly and gives the manager a complete view of the network —and the customer, control from their phone. A real Dutch case illustrates this: a smart meter with leak detection uncovered a dripping tank which, without data, would have meant a loss of 2,000 m³ a year, visible only on the bill as roughly €1,000 extra.7 We don't replace a single part: we design, integrate and customise the complete system for each installation.
